Your new floor could be 1000 times safer...
If you know what you want from your floor and you know how to test it you can probably get a new floor that is 1000 times lower slip risk than most floors. Many new floors are not safe enough. HSE tests show that about 85% of floors are not perfectly safe. More worrying, nearly 50% of floors tested by the HSE have a high slip risk that is at least 1:20 risk that somebody might slip. Contact SlipAlert and ask about our Floor Specification Workshop.
Today's new floor is tomorrow's legacy floor
As you know, many floors will last for 25 years or more. Therefore getting a quality floor that wears well, is safe and fit for purrpose is essential. If you are responsible for buying new flooring then please contact SlipAlert.

There are so many different floor specifications how can you be sure the floor you are buying will be safe?... SlipAlert can help
Many floors are specified with German Ramp measures: R9 - R13, some (especially Italian or American floors) are specified with co-efficient of friction measures: (0.36 is good, 0.4 may be required), some are specfied in PTV (Pendulum Test Values) again 36 or 40 may be required, But all these measures come with a caution and the only sure way of knowing the floor is safe is to test it when it is laid. The most reliable, quick and easy way is to test it with SlipAlert.

If you are responsible for specifying a new floor what measures should you use?...
The level of slip resistance you require will vary according to the intended use of the floor. HSE would advise PTV of 36 or better for all floors, but 80% of floors fail to achieve this wehen wet. Many European floors will claim to be R9 or better - but R9 is the lowest measure on the German ramp test. Italian or American floors are often specified in co-efficient of friction measures where 0.36 or 0.4 is theoritically safe - but often these are measures are safe in the dry but the wet measures are misleading - see HSE website
So, the only safe way to specify floors is to specify SlipAlert Test Values and then measure the floor when it is laid. You will require STV of 130 or better in the dry and somewhere below STV 173 for wet slip risk. The more ofetn your floor is wet, the closer you will want it to score 130 or better in the wet. A floor that is never wet should still score STV 173 just in case there is a spill or water leaks on the floor.

Special flooring situations: pool surrounds, shower areas, sports halls, multi-purpose flooring, kitchens, floor areas prone to condensation etc.
If you are laying a new floor you should understand how the floor will be used. Contact SlipAlert and ask our advice for determining the slip resistance you need for different flooring situations.
SlipAlert is the new easy way to manage floors that saves you time installing, maintaining and managing floors:
Save time buying new floors...
When you are buying a new floor it should be safe for the intended purpose. Until now, it has been difficult and time consuming to source a safe floor. Floors have been specified in units you cannot measure at installation. Now you can specify the level of slip resistance you need and quickly test the floor when its installed. read more.
Save time maintaining floors...
Replacing tiles or re-coating a floor surface, you will want to know if the changes are safe or if there is an increased slip risk. With SlipAlert you can quickly measure the slip risk before and after any maintenance work and you can make sure it has been done safely.
Save time, while you manage floor safety...
Floors can be monitored quickly and easily which will help you to learn more about what causes slip risk on different floors you are responsible for. You won't waste time wondering why slip accidents occur, you won't waste time wondering why one area of a floor seems a little slippery. With SlipAlert you'll find it much quicker and easier to manage floor safety.
Save time, while you manage an effective cleaning regime...
Floors are often cleaned late in the evening or early in the morning. You cannot always be there to supervise the cleaning, but you'd like to know if it has be done properly. You'd like to know if the wrong cleaning fluids were used, or if too much polish was applied, or if areas of floor were not cleaned properly. A quick test with SlipAlert will spot any significant risks created by failures in your cleaning regime. No system is perfect but with SlipAlert you are far more likely to spot a slip risk before somebody slips or is injured.
Save time by preventing slip accidents...
Slip accidents are bad for business, bad for the person who slipped and they are time consuming. Use SlipAlert as part of an approved floor safety regime and you'll find a lot less slip accidents. The HSE estimate that at least half of all slip accidents could be prevented. When there is an accident you can quickly test the floor with SlipAlert and that will help you determine the cause of the slip.
